Lea Salonga's wedding -
A mix of wedding traditions

Back to Wedding Traditions

Lea Salonga - Philippine's child star who went on to gain international fame with her singing career in her performance of Kim in Miss Saigon.   In the field of musical theatre, she is the first to win multiple awards for a single role.  She is also known for her Broadway role in Les Miserables, the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan.

In January 20, 2004, at the age of 33, Lea Salonga wedded Robert Chien, a Chinese/Japanese/Hawaiian/American from California. The wedding ceremony was held at Our Lady of the Angeles Cathedral (Catholic church) and the reception was at the Millenium Biltmore Hotel.

Canadian immigrants would appreciate how Lea and Rob arranged their wedding ceremony to include traditions from both their backgrounds.

The wedding attire: Lea's wedding gown is a traditional western style romantic gown.
The bridesmaids' gowns:  Chinese cheongsam styled gowns in deep red.
Groom's ties:  Deep red (Chinese lucky color)
Reception:  Western styled - Butternut squash soup; Pear & Walnut Salad; Choice of Entrees - Fresh Sea Bass or Filet Mignon; Citrus Cheesecake for dessert.
Ceremony:  Catholic church wedding incorporating the Filipino Candle, Veil and Cord tradition, and Last embrace by the bride as a single woman.
Original tradition:  Serenade by the Bride singing the wedding vow (Two Words) a wedding present by Louie Ocampo and Freddie Santos.

Bridesmaids with Groomsmen
This is a very interesting video for wedding planners as the bridesmaids' gowns are a blend of western and oriental fashion.

Bridesmaid and Groomsmen-- Lea Salonga

Lea Salonga's wedding Song - Two Words

Two Words -- Wedding of Lea Salonga

So interesting to watch...
First, you have Rob, the groom who can't stop crying while repeating his vows.
Second, you have the bride who sang a love song to her new husband.  Lea Salonga, is also overcome with emotions.

TWO WORDS
(music by Louie Ocampo, lyrics by Freddie Santos)

In a while, in a word
Every moment now returns
For a while, seen or heard
How each mem’ry softly burns

Facing you who brings me new tomorrows
I thank God for yesterdays
How they led me to this very hour
How they led me to this place

Every touch, every smile you have given me in care
Keeping heart, always I’ll now be treasuring everywhere

And if life should come to just one question
Do I hold each moment true?
No trace of sadness, always with gladness
‘I DO’

Now a song that speaks of now and ever
Beckons me to someone new
Uexpected, unexplored, unseen
Filled with promise coming through

In a while, in a word
You and I forever changed
Love so clear, never blurred
Has me feeling wondrous, strange

And if life should come to just one question
Do I face each moment true?
No trace of sadness, always with gladness
‘I DO’
Never with sadness, always with gladness
‘I DO’
